MidAtlantic Paranormal is a team of paranormal investigators comprised of adults from varying professions. We began as a team back in 2001 but our investigative experiences go back to the late 80’s.
Initially, like just about every other group out there, our investigations had little focus or little application of scientific methodology or technology. It was more for the adrenaline rush of nosing around an old grave yard or monitoring a section of woods for crypto-zoological activity. As the core group became more mature (and we had a bit more cash) we began investigating using technology…from digital cameras to digital video and digital audio. That was when things really started picking up.
Then, one night, after an investigation we came to a conclusion: it seemed as though the places where we encountered the greatest activity were battlefields. Regardless of the conflict, battlefields seemed to offer up some of the best activity, and as we thought on it, well, it all made sense. Battlefields, particularly American Civil War battlefields, offered a concentration of lamentable death. Youth plucked by the scythe of Death in staggering and heart breaking numbers. Surely SOME of these souls, if they are able, still are earth bound and unaware that they are dead. Or, perhaps they are aware but wish to continue to cling to this earthly home. Who knows why? So we began making it a point to focus our investigations on historical places like battlefields and structures associated or connected in some way to those battles. It has since made all the difference.
With some of our team having served (and still serving) the US Military, and the remainder of the team having a VERY healthy respect and admiration for the sacrifices these people have made—and today, continue to make—we maintain a VERY serious and respectful approach to each and every battlefield or historic place we investigate. All of our members are well educated in the military history of the sites we investigate and we take every care to bring the absolute highest degree of respect to these honored fields where so many have died in order that we might enjoy the rights we have today.
One of our greatest disappointments in our community is when we investigate someplace like The Wheatfield or The Slaugher Pen, both at Gettysburg, and we see teenagers giggling and running around the fields as if they are on some picnic field. Snapping photos and have zero respect for the men who gave, literally, their last full measure on this field. It saddens us and makes us realize why the National Park Services are as reluctant to have legitimate paranormal investigators on their fields. It is a shame, but it is the reality we must all bear.
So please, for whatever reason you found us, if you take nothing away from this site, please, if/when you investigate hallowed places like Antietam or Fredericksburg or Gettysburg or Yorktown or ANY battlefield, please, show the appropriate level of respect. This is not a game for many of us and it was definitely not a game to those souls that spent their last moments on the grounds you skip across.
